Planned Parenthood Responds to Stupak Amendment

After the House passed the health care bill that included the Stupak Amendment, Planned Parenthood responded immediately with an e-mail appeal to their supporters. As you read the letter, notice that the word "abortion" is seldom mentioned. Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards prefers to use less offensive---and more deceptive---phrases such as "comprehensive health care for women" and "reproductive care." Richards accuses pro-lifers of opposing health care for women as though abortion is the only important part of health care that concerns women. She even goes as far as to say that, without abortion coverage, women are "worse off under health care reform" than they are without any health care coverage at all. Does this sound like someone who is concerned about women's health? Also, Richards reminds us that President Obama has vowed to include abortion coverage in any health care reform. And she promises that Planned Parenthood will be working harder htan ever to defeat the Stupak amendment in the senate. That means we must also work harder than ever to see that we aren't forced to pay for abortions.
